Contemporary security exists in an increasingly complex political, economic, social and cultural reality in the local, national, regional and global dimensions. The network security structures give the involved actors opportunity for a wide range of activities thanks to flexibility, communication, adapability and availability of resources. The impact of globalization forces on international order, regional processes which have strengthened, contested or rejected globalization, as well as local tendencies to renationalisation and the shaping of identity by national, religious or ethnic factors are the subject of thoughts and observations presented in this volume. They are accompanied by reflections on the regional and global determinants of international order leading to new cognitive challenges in theoretical, methodological and empirical terms. It argues for the need to explore new areas of knowledge about national security and international relations and to use a proper compass while navigating the meandering journey through contemporary security. This collective volume presents an extremely diverse and rich panorama of contemporary security in a local, regional and global perspective.
