„The Taste of Liberation. Ireneusz Kania and the Human Sciences” is the first monograph dedicated to of one of the most distinguished intellectuals in contemporary Poland.
The book aims to become a general introduction to the work of Ireneusz Kania (1940-2023) - widely known as an eminent translator from both ancient and modern languages, but still waiting to be properly recognized as an original thinker, ‘a man of knowledge’, a polyhistor. The monograph strives to present his work as a dynamic unity of rare linguistic skills and a vast knowledge of Buddhism, Jewish Kabbalah, Hinduism, accompanied by a vivid interest in modern philosophy and science. The authors represent different fields of study, such as: literary criticism, anthropology, philosophy, theology and theory of science. What makes this book unique is a personal standpoint of many of the contributors, who entered into a dialogue with Ireneusz Kania, becaming his interlocutors and friends.
