The book, devoted to the problematic of political discourse about European Union in Polish daily press, consists in two basic parts. The first two chapters refer to the theoretical background, where there have been elaborated different conceptions of the role of the media’s discourse in contemporary society. There has been also constructed theoretical background referring to the contemporary sociological theories of three authors who consider discursive aspects of society within a critical perspective (Habermas, Foucault and Bourdieu).
Using two models of political discourse, and two sets of indicators related to them, in the chapters 3rd to 6th there has been investigated the manner of communication in Polish press. The investigation involves such elements as: the analysis of predominant vocabulary and strategies of argumentation about Nice Treaty and Constitutional Treaty; the analysis of the created vision of the relations between Poland and EU; the analysis of reader’s letters published in the newspapers, as an indicator of citizens participations in political debates about EU.
In the conclusion there have been presented the most important findings from the research and also catalogued basic rules of political debates.
