“Kino po traumie” (“Cinema after Trauma”) is the first Polish-language study of such scope devoted to the presence of the September 11, 2001 attacks in American feature film. The author analyzes films produced after 2001, showing how cinema confronts the experience of catastrophe, collective trauma, and the processes through which collective memory is formed.
The book examines a wide range of narrative, aesthetic, and ideological strategies through which filmmakers represent the events commonly referred to as “9/11.” The film analyses are situated within a broader cultural, media, and social context, which also includes non-film forms of commemoration such as museums, monuments, and memorial sites.
The publication combines perspectives from film studies and media studies with reflection on the mechanisms of memory and the socio-cultural processing of trauma. Based on many years of research, the book develops the author’s doctoral dissertation defended in 2022. It is published in the year marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks, offering an important contribution to reflection on their cultural consequences.
