The book “Justice and Law”, edited by Piotr Kardas, Wiktor Antolak, Maciej Bujalski and Piotr Załęski, is the result of two years of seminars devoted to the relationship between law and justice, attended by doctoral students of the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences at the Jagiellonian University. It focuses on how Polish lawyers, primarily legal scholars and judges, understand and use the concept of justice in their legal reasoning, the judgements they rend and their doctrinal analyses. The study is characterised by an interdisciplinary approach combining a theoretical-legal perspective with the application of the concept of justice within specific branches of law, including constitutional law, criminal law and civil law. The analyses therefore cover the so-called constructivist concept of justice, which refers to the understanding given to the concept of justice by lawyers themselves, whilst also serving as a tool they employ in their daily work. This approach allows each author to outline the role played by the concept of justice within their respective specialisations.
