Oceania contains the islands located in the Pacific Ocean that are a part of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. The region located between Asia, Australia and both Americas is worth a special attention not only for cultural but also political and economic reasons. During the first decades of the current century the importance of Pacific in the international relations increased. Politics, economics, history and culture of the states of Melanesia, Micronesia as well as Polynesia are subject that cannot be omitted in the global puzzle of the 21st century. The world system of communicating vessels means that lack of knowledge about one region results in not understanding of the situation in the neighbourhood.
DARIUSZ ZDZIECH, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of the Middle and Far East Institute, Jagiellonian University, Krakow. A historian, his research focuses on Australia and Oceania Region. He specializes in: migration of Poles to the Antipodes, international relations in the Pacific region, national history and tourism of the Pacific countries. The founder and the long-standing president of the Australia, New Zealand and Oceania Research Association. An Office and Policy Assistant of the New Zealand Embassy in years 2011-2014. Kiribati Expert to the Polish Ministry of the Environment 2013. The president of Poland helps Poland Foundation.
