The book Migrant children in school environments – insights from Poland and selected EU countries is an extremely important and unique source of knowledge about the situation of migrant children in the Polish education system. Never before has our country faced such challenges, nor were policymakers, teachers, or educators adequately prepared for the increasing issues that emerged as the number of migrants settling in various regions of Poland grew. The need for scientific research in this area has been, and continues to be, enormous.
This book not only provides exceptional, in-depth knowledge about how foreign children perceive Polish schools and the key challenges of intercultural education from a professional perspective but also offers a range of practical guidelines that can be implemented “immediately”.
The reviewed book delivers detailed insights into the experiences of foreign children in Polish (and European) schools, showcasing both the perspective of the child-student and that of teachers and cultural assistants. It provides recommendations—both detailed and general—for potential school reforms aimed at creating a more inclusive environment. The book also highlights the need for systematic research and school monitoring, as the support for foreign students still requires continuous reorganization and improvement, despite numerous initiatives already undertaken.
