The authors of the articles included in the volume are: Justyna Doniec, Paweł Marcin Dudek, Janina Czapska, Kamil Jurzak, Jakub Kisiel, Szymon Kucharski (S.K.J.), Magdalena Kurdziel, Dariusz Piotrowski, Andrzej Porębski, Katarzyna Wiśniewska. The authors have chosen to outline the challenges facing non-judical dispute resolution in the third decade of the 21st century. The cross-sectional analysis is a result of individual and joint work during a two-year ‘project seminar’ within the framework of the Legal Sciences program of the Doctoral School in Social Sciences at Jagiellonian University in Cracow. In chapters, divided into two main parts, the authors proposed in their articles a new look at the already known and used instruments of non-judical settlement of disputes between equal, as well as subordinate parties, undertaking their analysis from the perspective of the requirements of the dynamics of modern relations. In view of this, the publication proposes alternative solutions to the existing and already occurring problems, while at the same time recognizing new uncertainties arising from rapid normative changes and the development of modern technologies. The term ‘alternative’ already shown in the title itself, should be interpreted in doing so independently of such values as efficiency or effectiveness of the state at the judicial perspective. It suggests a difference from traditional, judicial methods of resolving disputes in the field of public authority action. This is because the authors recognize the role of individuals themselves in the process of reaching a satisfactory settlement, for which the state often does not need to have a sovereign influence, adjudicating and determining the content of relations between them.
