This publication is a collection of articles dedicated to various issues concerning contemporary Latin America, encompassing both its past and its future prospects. The topics discussed here reflect the research interests of young Polish Latin Americanists. Given the significant importance of health protection, prevention, and treatment during the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the first article is devoted to a comparative analysis of traditional medicine among indigenous groups residing in Mexico and Peru. The integration of its elements into the public healthcare system is an initiative undertaken by these countries to combat exclusion in access to medical services for people living in rural areas. The next chapter attempts a reinterpretation of magical realism novels based on anthropological sources and field research. The context for these considerations is the complex ethno-cultural relations in southern Mexico against the backdrop of historical changes that continue to influence daily life in the state of Chiapas. "Lula's Return – The Return of the King?" is an analysis of the recent environmental and biodiversity protection decisions made by the President of Brazil. The reference points include both the pre-election promises and the decisions made by his predecessor in office. The necessity of reconciling economic and political interests with actions in favor of nature is also taken into account. The fourth text delves into the complex Haitian-Dominican relations, providing a detailed analysis of the history of the relations between the two countries, while also pointing to possible actions that could serve to normalize contacts between these neighbors. At the same time, it highlights the contemporary socio-economic disparities that pose significant challenges for both Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The next article is dedicated to the situation of Venezuelan women in the context of political changes and the long-standing crisis plaguing the country. A comparison of the efforts of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro to protect women's rights and combat gender discrimination is juxtaposed with the media narratives of both politicians on this topic, as well as the perspective of possible changes at the highest levels of power in Venezuela. The final chapter focuses on cultural diplomacy and the role of social media in building soft power. The text serves as a case study based on an analysis of the Peruvian Embassy's activities on social media platforms. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has permanently redefined the role of digital tools in diplomacy and cultural policy, provides a significant context for the development of profiles on various platforms and the content published there.
