This is a relatively unusual university textbook in theoretical physics, covering also – through examples – several selected computing techniques, mainly for physicists, but potentially useful in other domains, such as engineering or biology. Conceived originally as a restricted compilation of exercises, it has developed into a quite comprehensive self-study book, which may be helpful for PhD students and teachers preparing their lectures and assignments. The structure of this more than 250-page long text is heterogeneous, the difficulty level is variable, but according to the authors – themselves former university teachers – a sufficiently assiduous student should benefit from the essential contents of the book, without too much frustration.
