Romanticism and the Time Suspended
Magdalena Siwiec’s Romanticism and the Time Suspended constitutes a collection of studies concerning Romantic literature united by a primary interpretative idea expressed by title-metaphor of the suspended time. The essence of the book is a contextual analysis of texts by inter alia: Słowacki, Nerval, Mickiewicz, Hugo, Norwid, Schlegels, Chateaubriand, Lammenais, Ballanche, Krasiński. As a key problem of reading appears “a spell on time”: returning to the ancient traditions, religious doctrines, beliefs, resuscitating of myths, topoi, symbols, as well as a concept of poetry grown out of a tension between a passing and a duration likewise a question of Romantic modernity.
